Meet the Artist

Wilbert Tiongson is a Philippine-born contemporary painter based in West London. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila.

His work brings together two languages: the precision of realist portraiture and the freedom of abstraction. Faces emerge sharply rendered from fields of loose, gestural mark-making — a tension he summarises as 'realism paints the face, abstraction paints the journey.'

Working primarily in oil, Tiongson builds his paintings around an earth-toned palette and visible, unblended brushwork, keeping the hand of the artist present in the finished surface.
